Diary of a Zulu Girl: Real Motive behind it!

It’s very interesting how easy it is to just wake up early one morning and be the next best thing in town. Publicity isn’t as hard as it was before but then everything comes with some strings attached to it. I am a huge fan of the blog Diary of a Zulu girl, a blog written by a man telling a story of a Zulu girl who comes to look for a degree qualification. Am not saying that his blog has anything wrong in it but my main question is what is the real motive behind it? Is it a publicity stunt or is it just a mockery of the Zulu culture? The story is said to be written by a man but it portrays the thoughts of a woman which comes to question if this is just a story he thought about or it’s someone’s true life story. As they say, PR is about being a spin doctor, taking a situation and making it be in your favour, can we then go on to justify the statement that this is just a way of being a famous writer. Am not trying to ruin anyone's reputation but all am saying is can the angle in which this blog was written be justified and not looked at as a bit of a mockery to the Zulu culture. Zulu men are portrayed as people who are ignorant and hard hearted which then brings the question that, what message is the blog sending across to other the public? Social media is today's yardstick of deciding what is right or wrong and since this is a public blog isn’t it painting the wrong picture about the Zulu culture and also Nigerian man. Not every person in an ethic group is the same thus not every man who’s a Nigerian or Zulu act the way the blog says or tells the story. The blog is a real good read but is it a good read that justifies social media's use of telling the story or just a publicity stunt that’s damaging the image of the Zulu culture. As a PRP I believe one should consider the society in which they exist in, people overseas now have a bad perception about Zulu girls, Nigerians and Zulu men. As a brand I think Diary of a Zulu girl should write from an angle that does not condone or stereo type as branding is all about creating relationships and not creating segregation.

Walk of fame

Ever wondered what makes celebrities, celebrities? Take a look at Lady Gaga a woman that rose into fame after her dress sense, unique in its own way and undefined in our existence. The way people tend to use the little things to paint the big picture and build images for themselves is funny. PR is not about going out there and preaching about how people should prefer you over someone, it takes just something as small and ordinary as meat converted to a dress to make it to the walk of fame. LOL! Now how easy was that? Lets look at Justin Bieber, a young teenager who rose to fame by just uploading one simple video on You Tube. PR or branding is not all about saying something to people, its all about doing something unique and memorable in order for you to create a brand name for yourself. People may hate and ban Pop star Lady Gaga from their countries but because of what she has done for herself as a brand she has a very loyal fan base that has placed her as the top followed celebrities on social networks. Her signature meat dress, half balanced heels and weird hats are what make her the brand she is. It doesn't take much to make it to the top, just a good PR and motivation is all that you need: but can we then go on to criticise PR as a socially unethical way of manipulating people's minds by showing them only the good side of the picture. Can we then also go on to conclude that Lady Gaga used her unique sense of dressing to manipulate her way through our social values of preserving food and being presentable when dressed. I wonder!
